Aujourd'hui était un grand jour : Andréa allait enfin savoir si elle allait avoir une soeur, comme elle le souhaite, ou un troisième frère.

Pendant que Maman et Papa allaient passer la visite médicale chez l'obstétricien, Mamie a récupéré les enfants à la sortie de l'école. Comme il fait beau, ils se sont installés dans le jardin pour prendre le goûter.

Ensuite, elle a surveillé Andréa et Andréb pendant qu'ils faisaient leurs devoirs (eh oui, la nouvelle maîtresse donne aussi des devoirs cette année, au grand désespoir des enfants !). Leur cousine Andrina les a accompagnés car sa mère devait travailler tard aujourd'hui et elle va dormir là ; elle est contente parce que Mamie lui a offert le même t-shirt que celui d'Andréa qui lui plaisait beaucoup.

Andréa lit avec application le texte qui leur a été demandé (car, contrairement à ce vous imaginiez peut-être, la coquine Andréa est une bonne élève).

Andréb ne peut pas s'empêcher de taquiner sa soeur ; on dirait que la voir très concentrée sur son livre agace son frère qui lui donne des coups de pieds.

- Laisse ta soeur travailler, lui demande Mamie.

- Oui, Mamie !

Ces petites taquineries amusent beaucoup Andrina (elle est fille unique) et elle les regarde en pouffant de rire, ce qui a pour résultat d'encourager Andréb à continuer.

Deux minutes plus tard il recommence à donner des coups de pieds sous la table.

- Andréb, je vais me fâcher si tu tu continues, avertit Mamie d'un ton plus ferme.

Les enfants se mettent alors sérieusement à leur travail d'école.

Tout à coup, on entend claquer les portières de la voiture. Ça y est, Papa et Maman arrivent.

Le petit Andréc quitte les genoux de Mamie pour se jeter dans les bras de son père pendant qu'Andréa se précipite vers sa mère.

- Alors ? demande-t-elle aussitôt.

- Eh bien, tu vas avoir une petite soeur comme tu l'espérais, lui dit Maman en souriant. 

Andréb proteste : 

- Ah ben non alors ! parce que quand cousine Andrina est chez nous, ça fait trop de filles à la maison. . Il va manquer un garçon. Papa, Maman, vous allez être obligés de faire un autre bébé !

You will have to have another baby!
Today was a big day: Andrea was finally going to know if she was going to have a sister, as she wishes, or a third brother.
While Mom and Dad were going for the medical visit to the obstetrician, Grandma picked up the children from school. As the weather is nice, they settled in the garden to have a snack.
Then, she watched Andréa and Andréb, as well as cousin Andrina who had accompanied them, while they did their homework (yes, the new teacher also gives homework this year, to the great despair of the children!).
Andréa diligently reads the text that was asked of them (because, contrary to what you might imagine, the naughty Andréa is a good student).
Andréb can't help teasing his sister; it seems that seeing her very focused on her book annoys her brother who kicks her.
- Let your sister work, asks Grandma.
- Yes, Grandma!
These little teasing amuse Andrina a lot (she is an only child) and she looks at them with a giggle, which has the effect of encouraging Andréb to continue.
Two minutes later he starts kicking under the table again.
- Andréb, I'm going to get angry if you continue, Grandma warns in a firmer tone.
The children then get serious about their schoolwork.
Suddenly, we hear the car doors slam. That's it, Mom and Dad are coming.
Little Andréc leaves Grandma's lap to throw himself into his father's arms while Andréa rushes towards his mother.
- SO ? she asks immediately.
- Well, you're going to have a little sister as you hoped, Mom told her smiling.
Andréb protests:
- Well no then! because now that cousin Andrina has come to live here and is often with us, there will be too many girls at home. A boy will be missed. Dad, Mom, you're going to have to have another baby!
