Since my readers all seemed very curious and impatient to meet Owen, Ethan's cousin, I couldn't resist checking in on how his arrival went today!

Il parle couramment français comme un québécois, ayant été élevé par sa grand-mère, qu'il partage avec son cousin Ethan. Elle était originaire de Trois-Rivières et mariée à un Américain ; c’est grâce à elle que les deux cousins ​​ont pu obtenir la citoyenneté canadienne.

He speaks French as well as a native Quebecer, having been raised by his grandmother, whom he shares with Ethan. She was originally from Trois-Rivières and married to an American; it was through her that the two cousins ​​were able to obtain their Canadian citizenship.

As suppertime approached, the three of them went to the Jukebox. It was a bit early, but they were starving, especially Owen, who hadn't eaten much since leaving Oregon.

Cela se confirma au restaurant lorsque, après qu'Ethan eut suggéré, après le repas, soit une promenade au bord du lac s'il faisait beau, soit une séance de cinéma s'il pleuvait encore pour voir un film dont ils avaient parlé en voiture, Yumi mentionna qu'elle aimait beaucoup lire un livre avant d'en voir une adaptation cinématographique. Owen sortit alors de sa réserve nonchalante et se mit à décrire deux romans de Victor Hugo qui, selon lui, méritaient amplement d'être adaptés au cinéma.

This was confirmed at the restaurant when, after Ethan suggested that after the meal they either take a walk by the lake if the weather was nice, or go to the cinema if it was still raining, to see a film they had discussed in the car, Yumi casually mentioned that she really enjoys reading a book before seeing a film adaptation. Owen, however, broke out of his usual reserve, describing two novels by Victor Hugo that, in his opinion, truly deserved to be adapted for the screen.

Le visage amical mais quelque peu neutre du jeune homme s'illumina. Sa voix devint chaleureuse et animée.

Ses gestes, jusque-là retenus, devinrent plus fluides, ponctuant ses phrases de gestes amples. Yumi et Ethan étaient suspendus à ses lèvres… et Yumi promit de trouver ces deux romans au plus vite !

Lorsque Céline s'approcha avec le menu, Owen était en train de déclarer :

Il était clair que la jeune fille ne comprenait pas un traitre mot de ce qu'il racontait, mais elle était complètement captivée par l'orateur : un sourire béat aux lèvres, elle le contemplait comme si elle avait découvert la septième merveille du monde, restant parfaitement immobile et sans même penser à proposer les menus !

Jusqu'à ce qu'Éthan la sorte de sa rêverie béate en lui disant qu'ils avaient faim !!

Quand elle fut repartie avec les commandes, Ethan se mit à rire et dit à Yumi :

"Tu vois, je te l'avais dit, c'est immanquable, il fait cet effet-là !"

Elle se mit à rire elle aussi.

She laughed too.

Mais le pauvre Owen interpréta mal leurs rires.

"Je suis désolé. Je sais que je peux devenir terriblement ennuyeux quand je parle de littérature. Et mes élèves ne se sont pas gênés pour me le faire savoir !"

But poor Owen misinterpreted their laughter.
"I'm sorry. I know I can become incredibly boring when I start talking about literature. And my students certainly didn't hesitate to let me know!"

"Oh non Owen, on ne riait pas pour ça du tout. Au contraire, tu peux continuer, tu as un don extraordinaire pour décrire l'intrigue des romans ; ça donne envie de courir à la librairie ! En tout cas, c'est l'effet que ça m'a fait, alors continue, s'il le plait". 

"Oh no, Owen, we weren't laughing at that at all. On the contrary, you can keep going. You have an extraordinary way of describing the plot of novels; it makes you want to rush to the bookstore! At least, that's how it made me feel, so please do continue."

Ethan le rassura aussi.

"Mais non, cousin, on riait de la tête de la serveuse qui te regardait comme si tu étais un gâteau au chocolat dans lequel elle avait envie de croquer sur le champ ! J'avais prévenu Yumi que les filles te courent après dès qu'elles te regardent". 

Ethan reassured him.
"No, cousin, we were laughing at the waitress's face. She was looking at you like you were a chocolate cake she wanted to devour right away! I warned Yumi that girls would chase after you the moment they saw you."

Owen n'eut pas le temps de répondre que Céline revenait déjà avec les boissons. Il la regarda et vit le sourire éclatant qu'elle lui dédiait avec insistance. 

Owen didn't have time to reply before Céline was back with the drinks. He looked over and saw the dazzling white smile she was giving him.

Il détourna la tête en dissimulant avec peine son envie de rire.

He turned his head away, barely suppressing his laughter.

Mais quand elle fut éloignée, il s'adressa à Ethan.

"Quand est-ce que je vais trouver une fille qui s'intéresse d'abord à ce que j'ai DANS la tête ?"

"Ne t'inquiète pas pour ça, cousin. Je suis certain que l'âme sœur t'attend quelque part et que tu vas la rencontrer. Toute comme j'ai rencontré ma merveilleuse Yumi. D'ailleurs, avec elle, je pourrais presque dire que je suis vraiment 'TOMBÉ en amour', vu les circonstances de notre rencontre !".

"Don't worry about that, cousin. I'm sure your soulmate is out there waiting for you, and you'll meet her. Just like I met my wonderful Yumi. In fact, with her, I could almost say I truly 'FALLEN in love,' given the circumstances of our meeting!"

La pluie s'étant arrêtée, ils ont finalement fait un tour au bord du lac, avant de rentrer à la nuit tombée.
