Franck et Nabil dégagent l'entrée du chalet. Mais quelque chose turlupine Franck, qui s'arrête et pose la question qui lui trotte dans la tête.

"C'est une idée qu'on s'est faite, hier, ou bien tu en pinces vraiment pour Hermione ?".

« Eh bien, mon gars, vous vous trompez complètement. C'est une bonne amie, c'est tout. Cet été, j'ai vu un type qui l'embêtait vraiment à la plage, un peu comme toi et ta cougar, et je suis allé l'aider à le remettre à sa place. C'est tout. Je ne dis pas que je n'aurais pas aimé sortir avec elle, elle me plaisait, alors je l'ai invitée deux fois, on a passé une bonne soirée, et voilà, c'est tout. Elle est amoureuse de quelqu'un ; je ne sais pas qui, elle ne veut rien dire, alors je suppose qu'il est marié et qu'elle préfère ne pas en parler. »

Après cette confidence, les deux gars se remettent à pelleter la neige. Ils se dépêchent parce que la luminosité tombe rapidement.

Mais Franck a une autre question qui lui brûle les lèvres.

"Et Heidi, alors ?".

"Quoi Heidi ?!".  

"Ben, l'autre jour, quand elle est venue avec Guylaine, tu semblais complètement fasciné, tu la fixais presque comme si tu avais vu un fantôme. Tu étais sous le charme, apparemment !". 

"Ben, t'es encore à côté de la plaque ! Par contre, quand tu parles de fantôme, tu n'es pas loin de la vérité. Heidi ressemble trait pour trait à ma maîtresse d'école, quand j'étais gosse à Pantin ; c'était une femme absolument charmante. J'étais seulement sidéré par leur ressemblance : le même visage, les mêmes yeux, les mêmes cheveux, et la même voix. Je parierais sur ma vie qu'elles sont de la même famille. C'est pour ça que je la regardais comme ça. Et comme j'ai appris qu'Heidi a été abandonnée dans un orphelinat à la naissance, je me demande si je devrais lui dire ou non.".

"Waouh... question difficile".

"Je ne te le fais pas dire".

Les deux garçons ont terminé et sont rentrés prendre un café chaud bien mérité, alors que la neige se remettait à tomber de plus belle.

Franck and Nabil cleared the entrance to the chalet. But something was bothering Franck, who stopped and asked the question that had been nagging at him.
"Is this just something we were thinking by mistake  yesterday, or do you really have a crush on Hermione?"
"Well, you're way off base. She's a good friend, that's all. This summer, I saw some guy who was really bothering her at the beach, a bit like you and your cougar, and I went to help her put him in his place. That's all there is to it. I'm not saying I wouldn't have liked to go out with her; I invited her twice, we had a nice evening, and that's all. She's in love with a guy; I don't know who, she won't say, so I'm guessing he's married and she doesn't want to talk about it."

After this revelation, the two guys went back to shoveling snow. They hurried because the light was fading fast.
But Franck had another question burning on his lips.
"What about Heidi?"
"What about Heidi?!"
"Well, the other day, when she came with Guylaine, you seemed totally fascinated, you were practically staring at her like you'd seen a ghost. You were really smitten, apparently!"
"Well, you're way off base again. And when you talk about a ghost, you're not far off. Heidi looks exactly like my schoolteacher, when I was a kid in Pantin; she was an absolutely lovely woman. I was blown away by how much she resembles her—the same face, the same eyes, the same hair, the same voice. I'd bet my life they're related. That's why I was looking at her like that. I've learned that Heidi was abandoned in an orphanage at birth, I'm wondering whether I should tell her or not."
"Wow... tough one."
"You can say that again."

The two boys finished, and went home for a well-deserved hot coffee, just as the snow started falling again with renewed vigor.
