Presque tout le monde était parti travailler ce matin, Aslan cherchait des paysages à photographier, Yumi des skieurs sur les pentes, Oona et Nabil pistaient les traces des loups, et Wash observait un groupe de canards sur la rivière partiellement gelée. Seuls Tina, Shannen et Kyle étaient restés au chalet.

Ils furent surpris par la visite d'Ariane.

Elle s'installa, prit un café et se mit à bavarder de tout et de rien. Shannen eut l'impression qu'elle était simplement venue passer un moment en attendant quelque chose.

Ils comprirent la raison de cette visite lorsque deux des employés du parc sont entrés en portant un grand sapin planté dans un tonneau.

"Vous voilà enfin, je commençais à m'inquiéter ; je craignais que vous ayez eu un problème", leur dit Ariane.

"Le patron nous avait donné des instructions précises : où trouver les sapins, et la taille et la forme voulue. Mais on a du mal pour le déterrer et le mettre dans le tonneau, parce que le sol commençait à être bien gelé", répond l'un des hommes.

Kyle a rapidement attrapé le petit caméscope et filme toute la scène. Réaction professionnelle !

Ariane s'explique.

"Je pensais que vous voudriez peut-être installer un sapin de Noël, mais comme vous savez qu'il est interdit de couper des arbres dans le parc national, vous auriez dû en acheter un en ville. Eric a dit que, puisqu'il faut en déterrer des dizaines afin de les replanter ailleurs, pour les nouveaux emplacements de camping dans le cadre de l'agrandissement du parc, il était plus simple de vous en apporter un qui restera avec vous quelques semaines avant d'être planté à son nouvel emplacement.".

En effet, certains membres du groupe avaient parlé de décorer un sapin de Noël, même si d'autres pensaient que ce n'était pas nécessaire. Mais comme cela impliquait aussi de se cotiser pour acheter un sapin et des décorations, aucune décision n'avait encore été prise. Au grand dam de Shannen et Tina, qui adorent l'ambiance des fêtes et les décorations qui l'accompagnent.

Totalement ravie de voir le cadeau d'Ariane et Éric, Shannen montre aux deux hommes où placer le sapin. 

"Il est magnifique", s'exclame Tina avec le regard émerveillé d'une enfant.

Kyle continue de filmer leurs réactions.

"Merci du fond du cœur Ariane, à vous, et à Éric, d'avoir pensé à nous apporter ce sapin, c'est vraiment très gentil de votre part", déclare Shannen d'un ton ému.

Ariane semble aussi contente que les jeunes femmes. Elle a beaucoup d'affection pour ce groupe de jeunes qui sont venus travailler ici sans trop savoir ce qui les attendait vraiment.

"Cet après-midi, je vous enverrai Guylaine avec un carton de décorations. On en a plein au sous-sol qui viennent de droite et de gauche, ça ne nous manquera pas".

Almost everyone had left for work that morning. Aslan was looking for scenery, Yumi was watching skiers on the slopes, Oona and Nabil were tracking wolf tracks, and Wash was observing a group of ducks on the partially frozen river. Only Tina, Shannen, and Kyle remained in the cabin.

They were surprised by a visit from Ariane. She settled in, had a coffee, and started chatting about this and that. Shannen had the impression that she had just come to hang out while waiting for something.

They understood the reason for her visit when two park employees came in carrying a fir tree planted in a barrel.

"There you are at last. I was starting to worry you'd had a problem," Ariane called out to them.

"The boss had given us specific instructions on where to find the fir tree, dig it up, and put it in the pot, but we had a lot of trouble with the ground starting to freeze," explains one of the men.

Kyle quickly grabbed the small camcorder and filmed the scene. A professional response!

"I thought you might want to put up a Christmas tree, but since you know we're not allowed to cut down trees in the national park, you might have gone to buy one in town. Eric said that since we have to dig up dozens for the new campsites in the park expansion, to replant them elsewhere, it made sense to bring you one that will stay with you for a few weeks before being moved to its new location."

Indeed, some members of the group had talked about decorating a Christmas tree, although others thought it was unnecessary. But since it also meant pooling their money to buy a tree and decorations, no decision had yet been made, much to the disappointment of Shannen and Tina, who love the holiday atmosphere and the decorations that go with it.

And Shannen is thrilled to see Ariane and Eric's gift.

Tina admires the beautiful tree. "It's magnificent," she says with the delighted look of a child.

Kyle continues filming their reactions.

"Thank you from the bottom of my heart, Ariane, to you and Eric, for thinking of bringing us this tree. It's really very kind of you," says Shannen, her voice filled with emotion.

Ariane seems just as happy as the other young women. She has a lot of affection for this group of young people who came to work here without really knowing what to expect.

"This afternoon, I'll send Guylaine over with a box of decorations. We have loads in the basement that have been coming in from all over, so we'll have plenty."
