Yumi écouta David jurer qu'il ne retournerait jamais chez son père. "Comment ai-je été ? Odieuse, n'est-ce pas ?".

"Odieuse ? Certainement pas ! C'est plutôt lui qu'il faut qualifier d'odieux, vu le flot d'absurdités qu'il a débitées pour te convaincre de sa soi-disant sincérité !"

"Nabil a raison. Face à ses arguments foireux, je trouve que tu as été très mesurée. À ta place, la moutarde me serait montée au nez et j'aurais sans aucun doute été bien plus énergique et peut être bien beaucoup moins polie !"

Yumi esquisse un sourire.

"Je regrette de ne pas réussir à me rappeler de tout ce qu'on s'est dit. Quand mon cœur s'est mis à battre la chamade, je me souviens juste que j'avais l'impression d'avoir de plus en plus froid".

Kyle se lève.

"Attends une seconde, et tu te souviendras de tout".

Il revient avec le caméscope.

"Quand David est entré, tu nous filmais, Shannen et moi. Tu as été tellement surprise par son arrivée que tu as posé la caméra sur la table sans l'arrêter. Toute la scène a été filmée, son et image. Si tu veux la revoir, c'est facile".

"N'empêche, tu aurais dû l'arrêter. Kyle. Ça fait partie de la vie privée que tu n'es pas censé filmer pour le reportage".

"Ne t'inquiète pas, je l'aurais supprimé, évidemment, tu me connais. Mais dans ce cas précis, je me suis dit que ça pourrait être utile à Yumi si elle avait des problèmes avec ce type que je trouve vraiment un peu tordu".

Il lance la lecture sur l'appareil et tend le caméscope à Yumi, qui regarde toute la scène. Son visage affiche progressivement toute une gamme d'expressions : tristesse, culpabilité, confusion, amertume, puis, petit à petit, la colère apparaît dans ses yeux. 

Entendant de son côté l'enregistrement audio, Shannen intervient à la fin, au moment où David s'en va.

"Alors, comment te sens-tu après avoir revu tout ça ?" 

"Comment je me sens ? Depuis le mois dernier, je me sentais coupable d'avoir provoqué notre rupture en ayant des exigences qui le mettaient dans une situation difficile. Et tout à l'heure, juste après son départ, c'était dix fois pire, car je me sentais encore plus coupable de ne pas avoir essayé de le comprendre. Mais maintenant…" 

"Mais maintenant que j'ai revu cette scène, que j'ai entendu ses arguments fallacieux et constaté son comportement de gamin gâté… Je me demande comment j'ai pu être aussi naïve et y croire pendant des mois. C'est comme si tous mes sentiments pour lui s'étaient évanouis en regardant ce film. Et maintenant, je me sens... LIBÉRÉE… !"

Yumi se lève d'un bond et va serrer Kyle dans ses bras.

"Merci du fond du cœur d'avoir laissé la caméra allumée. Tu n'imagines pas à quel point mes idées sont plus claires maintenant grâce à cette vidéo, grâce à toi. Tu es génial !"

"Génial ? N'exagère pas ! Arrête, Yumi, il va prendre la grosse tête !" plaisante Shannen.

"Ouais, et puis, on ne profite pas de la situation pour le bécoter, hein ?! " ajoute Nabil en riant.

Yumi le regarde et plaisante :

Dis-donc, toi, au lieu de dire des bêtises, tu n'avais pas une copine à appeler ?!".

Hilare, Shannen renchérit :

"Oui, c'est vrai. Allez, prends ton téléphone et appelle !"..

"Carrément ! Allez, vas-y mon pote, on attend !" rajoute Kyle en riant..

Après ça, Nabil n'avait pas le choix… ! Mais il est sorti pour passer son coup de fil tranquillement, au grand amusement des trois autres. Du coup, je n'ai aucune idée de ce qu'il a pu dire à Jasmine !

"Horrible? Certainly not! He's the one who should be called horrible, given the stream of nonsense he spouted to convince you of his so-called sincerity!"

"Nabil's right. Faced with his flimsy arguments, I think you were very restrained. In your place, I would have been furious and undoubtedly much more forceful, and perhaps much less polite!"

Yumi smiled slightly.

"I regret not being able to remember everything we said when my heart started pounding. I just remember feeling colder and colder."

Kyle stands up.

"Wait a second, and you'll remember everything."

He returns with the camcorder.

"When David came in, you were filming Shannen and me. You were so surprised by his arrival that you put the camera down on the table without stopping it. The whole scene was filmed, sound and image. If you want to see it again, it's easy."

"Still, you should have stopped it, Kyle. That's part of our private lives that you're not supposed to film for the report."

"Don't worry, I would have deleted it, of course, you know me. But in this particular case, I thought it might be useful to Yumi if she had problems with this guy, who I find really twisted."

"But now that I've rewatched that scene, heard his flimsy arguments, and seen his spoiled-brat behavior… I wonder how I could have been so naive and believed him for months. It's like all my feelings for him vanished while watching that video. And now, I feel… FREE…!"

Yumi jumps up and hugs Kyle.

"Thank you from the bottom of my heart for leaving the camera on. You have no idea how much clearer my thoughts are now thanks to that video, thanks to you. You're amazing!"

"Great? Don't exaggerate! Stop it, Yumi, he's going to get a big head!" Shannen jokes.

"Yeah, and besides, we're not going to take advantage of the situation to kiss him, are we?!" Nabil adds, laughing.

Yumi looks at him and jokes:

"Hey, instead of talking nonsense, didn't you have a girlfriend to call?!"

Laughing, Shannen chimes in:

"Yes, that's right. Go on, pick up your phone and call!"

"Absolutely!" "Go on, buddy, we'll wait!" Kyle added, laughing.

After that, Nabil had no choice…! But he went outside to make his phone call in peace, much to the amusement of the other three. So, I have absolutely no idea what he said to Jasmine!
