Heidi fit un autre cauchemar. Ça tombait mal parce que Nina était sortie au restaurant ce soir-là. Incapable de se rendormir, elle joua sur son téléphone après y avoir noté les détails du rêve.

Heidi had another nightmare. It was bad timing because Nina had gone out to a restaurant that evening. Unable to fall back asleep, she played on her phone after jotting down the details of her dream.

Dans ce cauchemar, Botulf, furieux, saccageait la chambre de Margrave pour vérifier si elle l’avait trahi en aidant Heidi. Il était déterminé à briser les liens entre Heidi, le roi et sa fille afin de reconquérir la totalité de son pouvoir.

In this nightmare, Botulf, furious, was trashing Margrave’s room to check if she had betrayed him by helping Heidi. He was determined to break the bonds between Heidi, the king and his daughter, in order to reclaim the full extent of his power.

Soudain, elle entendit Nina rentrer.

Elle l’appela, et son amie entra dans la chambre.

- Tu ne dors pas encore ?

- Non, j'ai fait un nouveau cauchemar avec Botulf.

Suddenly, she heard Nina come home.

She called out to her, and her friend came into the bedroom.
"Aren't you asleep yet?"
"No, I had another nightmare about Botulf."

Elle alluma la lumière et tapota le lit.

- Viens t'asseoir et raconte moi ta soirée.

She turned on the light and patted the bed.
"Come sit down and tell me about your evening."

Nina s'installa.

- Que veux tu que je te raconte ? Il est très gentil, un peu timide, mais vraiment sympa. On a beaucoup parlé de nos livres préférés, on va même en échanger quelques uns. Il m'a parlé de son boulot, de ses élèves, de son enfance en Oregon au ranch de sa grand-mère, et je lui ai parlé de mes études. Et puis de je ne sais quoi encore ; en fait, on n'a pas vu le temps passer, et c'était une soirée très agréable.

Nina sat down.
"What do you want me to tell you? He’s very nice, a bit shy, but really friendly. We talked a lot about our favourite books, and we’re even going to swap a few. He told me about his job, his students, his childhood in Oregon at his grandmother's ranch, and I told him about my studies. And then about who knows what else; honestly, we lost track of time, and it was a very lovely evening."

Heidi remarqua le sourire un brin rêveur de Nina et se dit que la littérature ne suffisait sûrement pas à donner un tel sourire. Mais elle respecta le jardin secret de son amie et n’insista pas.

Heidi noticed Nina's somewhat dreamy smile and thought to herself that literature alone surely wasn't enough to bring such a smile. But she respected her friend's privacy and didn't press further.

- Mais il m’a aussi parlé de son cousin Ethan, tu sais, le blond aux cheveux longs. Il ne va pas bien du tout ; Yumi l’a largué et il est complètement déprimé. Owen est en colère contre Yumi, car elle a dû mal se comporter avec Ethan. Ils étaient censés aller chez Tamsir pour Thanksgiving, mais lui n’y est pas allé, il est resté dans l’appartement d’Owen sans en sortir depuis. Mais apparemment, il en est quand même sorti ce matin en ayant l’air de s’être repris en main, et lui a dit qu’il pensait repartir aux USA, parce que plus rien ne le retenait ici, alors qu'il venait juste de signer son contrat de moniteur de planche à neige avec la station de ski du parc national.
- Pauvre garçon, soupira Heidi, plus intéressée qu'elle ne voulait bien l'admettre.

"But he also told me about his cousin Ethan, you know, the blond guy with long hair. He’s not doing well at all; Yumi dumped him, and he’s completely depressed. Owen is angry with Yumi because she must have treated Ethan badly. They were supposed both to go to Tamsir’s place for Thanksgiving, but Ethan didn't go; he’s been staying in Owen's apartment and hadn't stepped foot outside since. But apparently, he did go out this morning looking like he’d pulled himself together, and he told Owen he was thinking of heading back to the U.S., since there was nothing left to keep him here, even though he’d just signed a contract to work as a snowboard instructor at the national park’s ski resort."
"Poor guy," Heidi sighed, more interested than she cared to admit.

- Tu sais, Owen m’a parlé de son cousin ; c’est un type bien, au fond, malgré son côté grand ado attardé. Il n’a pas eu une enfance facile avec ses parents bizarres, des gens du show-biz qui jetaient l’argent par les fenêtres et le refilaient à la grand-mère d’Owen dès qu’ils le pouvaient, sans se soucier le moins du monde de sa scolarité tant que ça les arrangeait pour leurs voyages. Je trouverais dommage qu’il reparte alors qu’il s’est donné tant de mal pour obtenir la citoyenneté canadienne. Alors j’ai dit à Owen qu’on devrait organiser une sortie tous les quatre pour lui changer les idées. Enfin, s’il est d’accord. Et si ça te va, bien sûr.

"You know, Owen spoke to me about his cousin; he’s a good guy deep down, despite his permanent teenager vibe. He didn't have an easy childhood with his weird parents, showbiz people who threw money out the window and dumped him on Owen's grandmother ranch whenever they could, without caring in the least about his schooling as long as it suited their travel plans. I think it would be a shame for him to leave when he worked so hard to get his Canadian citizenship. So, I told Owen we should arrange a double date to help him take his mind off things. Well, if he’s up for it. And if that’s okay with you, of course."

Heidi n’a jamais dit à personne à quel point Ethan ressemble à son archer, et elle se sent mal à l’aise d’avouer que ce garçon l’intrigue, bien que son style adulescent l'agace un peu.

Mais elle a des réticences.

- C'est la chasse gardée de Yumi quand même. Pas question d'aller piétiner ses plates-bandes... au cas où elle aurait un retour de flamme.

- Bien sûr que non ; il s’agit juste d’aider le pauvre gars à remonter la pente en l'obligeant à se changer les idées en sortant avec des amis. On ne peut pas le laisser couler comme ça. Il n'a pas voulu dire à Owen ce qui s’était passé entre Yumi et lui. Mais c’est forcément quelque chose de grave, et Owen est convaincu qu’il n’y est pour rien.

Heidi had never told anyone how much Ethan looked like her archer, and she felt uncomfortable admitting that this boy intrigued her, even though his "man-child" vibe annoyed her a little. 

But she had her reservations.
"That’s still Yumi's territory though. No way I’m going to step on her toes... just in case she has a change of heart."
"Of course not; it’s just about helping the poor guy get back on his feet getting him to take his mind off things and go out with some friends. We can't just let him sink like that. He wouldn't tell Owen what happened between Yumi and him. But it’s bound to be something serious, and Owen is convinced it wasn't his fault."

Nina se lèva en disant que c'était l'heure de dormir.

- Bon, même si tu ne veux rien dire, j'ai l'impression que ton prof de littérature t'a vraiment tapé dans l'œil... Tu n'as pas arrêté de parler de lui : Owen par-ci, Owen par-là...

- Écoute, ma belle : j'ai passé la soirée avec lui et tu me demandes de te faire un compte-rendu, il était difficile de ne pas prononcer son prénom plusieurs fois !! Bon, allez, je file au lit, moi, et tu ferais bien d'essayer de dormir aussi, il est deux heures du matin quand même.

- Promis !

Nina stood up, saying it was time for bed.
"Well, even if you won't admit it, I get the feeling your literature prof really caught your eye...You said Owen this, Owen that, the whole time..."
"Look, honey: I spent the evening with him and you're asking me for a full report, it was kind of hard not to say his name a few times! Anyway, I’m off to bed, and you should try to get some sleep too—it’s two in the morning after all."
"I promise!"

Au moment de partir, Nina se retourna.

- Et si jamais tu n'arrives pas à te rendormir, tu sais où me trouver pour un thé aux fruits et un bon vieux film ringard... parce que, finalement, je ne suis pas sûre de réussir à dormir facilement ce soir moi non plus !

As she was leaving, Nina turned around.
"And if you really can't get back to sleep, you know where to find me for a fruit tea and a good old cheesy movie... because, honestly, I’m not sure I’ll be able to fall asleep easily tonight either!"
