Quand Tina et Aslan sont rentrés hier après-midi de leur randonnée (ICI), ils ont eu la surprise de voir qu'Andréa et Qannik les attendaient.

"Bonjour les voisins ! On voudrait vous demander quelque chose".

"Oui ! On voudrait que vous nous appreniez à faire des photos" a confirmé Andréa.

"Vous voulez apprendre la photo ?" s'est étonné Aslan.

"Oui, on voudrait que Guyloup montre nos photos à nous aussi, pas seulement les vôtres", a expliqué Andréa.

Aslan sait que Tina adore les enfants, alors il lui propose d'apprendre les bases aux deux gamins pendant qu'il va remettre les cartes mémoires de leurs appareils photos à Shannen pour qu'elle fasse sa sélection.

"Avec plaisir, ils ont l'air tellement mignons tous les deux !" s'est réjouit Tina.

Une fois Aslan parti, Tina a prêté deux vieux appareil reflex à ses nouveaux élèves.

"Maintenant, écoutez-bien, et faites comme moi quand je vous le dirai".

"D'accord, Tina. On t'écoute".

"Vous verrez, quand vous aurez compris le principe de la triangulation, vous aurez compris l'essentiel des réglages de votre appareil photo. Ce n'est pas bien compliqué : triangulation, comme triangle. Et un triangle, ça a combien de pointes ? Vous avez appris ça à l'école?".

"Oui, ça a trois côté, et trois pointes", répond Andréa (toujours la meilleure élève de la classe). 

"Voilà, Eh bien, en photo, il y a trois réglages principaux : l'ouverture, la vitesse, et sensibilité. Regardez et faites comme moi".

"D'accord".

"L'ouverture, c'est l'œil de votre appareil photo : il est comme vous, plus il ouvre grand l'œil, et plus il voit de lumière, plus, il le ferme, et moins il voit de lumière. Le problème c'est que s'il ne voit pas assez de lumière, ça fait une photo trop foncée, et que s'il voit trop de lumière, ça fait une photo trop claire. Donc, il faut que vous appreniez à jongler entre les deux"

Tina continue leur montre des exemples.

"Ça, c'est trop clair, on dit que c'est surexposé".

"Ça. c'est trop foncé, on dit que c'est sous-exposé".

Elle leur montre comment ajuster les bons réglages et leur fait faire quelques essais.

Puis elle continue. 

"Si vous ouvrez son œil comme il faut, il verra assez de lumière et il photographiera vite, mais si vous manquez de lumière malgré l'œil grand ouvert, il photographiera lentement et ça sera flou. Alors, il y a un troisième réglage, celui qui dépanne quand il fait trop sombre que même l'œil grand ouvert, votre appareil travaille comme un escargot fatigué ; ça s'appelle les ISO. Si vous avez assez de lumière, vous pouvez régler votre appareil reflex sur 100 ISO, mais si malgré l'œil grand ouvert, votre appareil fait l'escargot, vous montez les ISO avec le petit bouton et la roulette qui sont là. Par exemple, 400 ISO si vous voyez que c'est sous exposé, ou encore plus d'ISO si c'est nécessaire".

Les deux gamins tripotent les boutons, font des essais, et reçoivent les félicitations de Tina.

"Bravo, vous comprenez vite. Mais attention Andréa, il faut bien ternir fermement ton appareil photo, sinon tu auras des photos floues, ou bien des morceaux seulement de ce que tu voulais photographier".

"D'accord, Tina, je vais bien le tenir".

"Allez, je rentre au chalet, Aslan doit m'attendre".

"Oui, va rejoindre ton amoureux. Merci Tina, au revoir, à bientôt !".

 Aujourd'hui, Andréa et Qannik sont parti mettre en pratique les conseils qui leur ont été donnés hier. 

"Tu as vu, il y a du soleil, donc il y a de la lumière, alors on va utiliser seulement 100 CISEAUX", dit-elle.

"Oui, je pense que 100 CISEAUX c'est bien, et on n'a pas besoin de lui ouvrir l'œil trop grand", confirme Qannik.

Mais Andréa avait oublié le dernier conseil de Tina .... alors, ses premières photos étaient un peu ratées !

Déçus du résultat sur l'écran de contrôle de leurs appareils, les deux lutins se sont repassés tous les conseils de Tina, en vain.

Jusqu'au moment où Andréa s'est rappelé qu'elle avait oublié qu'il fallait tenir fermement l'appareil photo. Elle a donc recommencé, et là, elle était si fière, qu'elle a même écrit son nom sur l'image !

When Tina and Aslan returned from their hike yesterday afternoon (HERE), they were surprised to find Andrea and Qannik waiting for them.
"Hello neighbors! We'd like to ask you something."
"Yes! We'd like you to teach us how to take photos," Andrea confirmed.
"You want to learn photography?" Aslan exclaimed.
"Yes, we'd like Guyloup to show us our photos too, not just yours," Andrea explained.

Aslan knows Tina loves children, so he offered to teach the two kids the basics while he gave Shannen the memory cards from their cameras so she could make her selection.
"With pleasure, they both look so cute!" Tina exclaimed.

Once Aslan had left, Tina lent two old SLR cameras to her new students.
"Now, listen carefully, and do as I tell you."
"Okay, Tina. We're listening."
"You'll see, when you understand the principle of triangulation, you'll understand the essentials of your camera settings. It's not very complicated: triangulation, like triangle. And how many points does a triangle have? Did you learn that in school?"
"Yes, it has three sides and three points," replies Andrea (always the best student in the class).
"There you go. Well, in photography, there are three main settings: aperture, shutter speed, and ISO. Watch and do as I do."
"Okay."
"The aperture is like your camera's eye: it's like you, the wider it opens, the more light it lets in; the more it closes, the less light it lets in. The problem is that if it doesn't let in enough light, the photo is too dark, and if it lets in too much light, it's too bright. So, you have to learn to balance the two."

Tina continues, showing them examples.
"That's too bright; we say it's overexposed."
"That's too dark; we say it's underexposed."
She shows them how to adjust the settings correctly and has them take a few test shots.

Then she continues.
"If you open your camera's eye wide enough, it will see enough light and take a quick picture, but if there isn't enough light despite the wide-open eye, it will take a slow picture and it will be blurry. So, there's a third setting, the one that comes in handy when it's so dark that even with the wide-open eye, your camera is working like a tired snail; it's called ISO. If you have enough light, you can set your SLR to ISO 100, but if, despite the wide-open eye, your camera is still sluggish, you increase the ISO with the little button and dial there. For example, ISO 400 if you see that it's underexposed, or even higher ISO if necessary."

The two kids fiddle with the buttons, experiment, and receive praise from Tina.
"Well done, you're a quick learner. But be careful, Andrea, you need to hold your camera firmly, otherwise your photos will be blurry, or you'll only get bits of what you wanted to photograph."
"Okay, Tina, I'll hold it firmly."
"Come on, I'm going back to the cabin, Aslan must be waiting for me."
"Yes, go join your sweetheart. Thank you, Tina, goodbye, see you soon!"

Today, Andrea and Qannik went to put into practice the advice they received yesterday.
"You see, the sun is shining, so there's plenty of light, so we'll only use 100 SCISSORS," she said.
(In French, the word ISO and the word CISEAUX /= scissors, sound very similar.)
"Yes, I think 100 SCISSORS is good, and we don't need to open his eyes too wide," Qannik agreed.

But Andrea had forgotten Tina's last piece of advice... so her first photos were a bit of a disaster! Disappointed with the result on their devices' control screens, the two elves went over all of Tina's advice again and again, to no avail.
Until Andrea remembered that she'd forgotten to hold the camera firmly. So she tried again, and this time she was so proud that she even wrote her name on the picture!
