Quand Yumi est entrée dans le chalet, elle a souri quand Shannen et Kyle lui ont demandé comment s'était passée cette nouvelle leçon.

"Vous nous avez vu par la fenêtre, n'est-ce pas ?".

C'est Nabil, qui était en train de se préparer un café, qui répond en la taquinant.

"Ah oui ! On a vu. Je ne sais pas ce qu'il a dit, mais vu comment tu as sursauté, j'ai cru qu'il te disait que tu étais trop mauvaise pour qu'il continue à t'apprendre à faire du snowboard !!".

"Ha ha ha ! Très drôle ! Sache qu'il parait que je suis très douée, na ! Par contre, si tu nous prépares un café à tous les quatre, je vous dirai pourquoi j'ai réagi comme ça".

Ils s'installent de la même manière que le jour où ils avaient tenté de consoler Yumi de sa rupture définitive avec David (revoir ICI), et Yumi explique ce qu'a dit Nathan et combien est dubitative et perplexe, car, même si Nathan lui plaît beaucoup, non seulement elle admet qu'elle ne se sent pas prête pour une nouvelle relation, mais, en plus, elle doute sérieusement qu'il ait pu autant s'attacher à elle après seulement deux jours passés ensemble.

"Eh bien… tu sais… il a l'air d'un type normal, jeune et en pleine forme, un peu comme moi… et toi, tu n'es pas mal du tout, alors, à sa place, j'aurais probablement tenté ma chance aussi. Et puis, franchement, je ne vois pas pourquoi tu hésites ! À ta place, je profiterais de l'occasion".

"Tu es un affreux !!" rigole Shannen.

"Voilà, notre coureur de jupons a parlé !!" rajoute Kyle.

Shannen se tourne vers Yumi.

"Tu sais, ce type et son ami Michael ont quitté leur pays en proie aux troubles pour venir ici trouver la paix. Il doit donc se sentir déraciné et seul, et par conséquent vulnérable. Il n'est pas impossible qu'il se sente amoureux de toi parce que tu es gentille avec lui et que vous vous entendez bien, mais il se peut aussi que ce soit simplement le mal du pays qui se manifeste et se transforme en sentiments d'attachement".

"Tu as eu le mal du pays, toi ?" demande Kyle avec un peu de surprise.

"On l'a tous eu depuis qu'on a quitté la France pour venir ici. C'est très différent que de partir quelques semaines ou quelques mois en vacances à l'étranger, tu sais : on se déracine, rien n'est plus pareil, alors des fois..."

Voulant couper court à la nostalgie de Shannen, qui pourrait éventuellement blesser Kyle, Nabil l'interrompt et déclare :

"Il y a aussi la possibilité qu'il soit réellement tombé amoureux de toi, ce n'est pas impossible non plus".

"Comme ça, au bout de deux petites journées sur les pistes et à la cafétéria du parc !" ironise Yumi.

"Mais oui, j'ai bien craqué sur Shannen dès le premier instant où je l'ai vue" déclare Kyle.

"C'est vrai ce que tu dis ?"

"Mais oui, je revis encore cet instant-là, tu étais sur le canapé et tu nous as regarder entrer avec Duncan, quand Ariane est venue nous présenter. Je ne voyais que toi !".

"Hey, les potes.... SVP, on ne tombe pas dans le sentimentalisme dégoulinant devant moi !!!". 

"Tu vas voir, le jour où ça va te tomber dessus, à toi le tombeur !"

"C'est pas demain la veille, crois-moi".

"Oh, ça, tu ne peux présumer de rien, mon pote, il va bien y en avoir une qui va finir par t'accrocher, et tu ne pourras rien contre !" rigole Shannen. 

Yumi éclate de rire.

"Bon, et bien, merci les copains, avec toutes vos hypothèses, je ne suis pas plus avancée, mais ça donne matière à réfléchir. Version 1, version 2, version 3 !! Wait and see : on verra bien dans le temps quelle est la bonne".

When Yumi entered the cabin, she smiled when Shannen and Kyle asked her how the new lesson had gone.

"You saw us through the window, didn't you?"

It was Nabil, the deadpan one, who was making himself a coffee, who answered, teasing her.

"Oh yeah! We saw. I don't know what he said, but the way you suddenly jumped back, I thought he was saying you were too bad for him to keep teaching you how to slide!"

"Ha ha ha! Very funny! Apparently, I'm actually quite good at it, ha! But if you make us all four a coffee, I'll tell you why I reacted like that."

They settle in the same way they did the day they tried to console Yumi after her final breakup with Nabil (see HERE), and she explains what Nathan said to her and why she reacted the way she did. Because, although she likes Nathan a lot, she admits that not only does she not feel ready for a new relationship, but she also seriously doubts he could have become attached to her after just two days together.

"Well... you know... he seems like a normal guy, young and in great shape, kind of like me... and you're not bad looking at all, so, in his place, I probably would have taken my chance too. And besides, please, I don't see why you're hesitating! If I were you, I'd take the opportunity."

"You're awful!!" Shannen laughs.

"There you have it, our womanizer has spoken!!" Kyle adds.

Shannen turns to Yumi.

"You know, this guy and his friend Michael left their troubled country to come here and find peace, so he must feel out of place and alone, therefore vulnerable. It's not impossible that he's falling for you because you're kind to him and you get along well, but that it's just homesickness acting up and turning into feelings of attachment."

"You've been homesick?" Kyle asks, a little surprised.

"We've all had it since we left France to come here. It's very different from going away for a few weeks or months on vacation abroad, you know: you're uprooted, nothing is the same anymore, so sometimes..."

Wanting to cut short Shannen's nostalgia, which might hurt Kyle, Nabil interrupts her and says:

"There's also the possibility that he's actually fallen in love with you, it's not impossible either."

"Just like that, after two short days on the slopes and in the park's cafeteria!" Yumi says sarcastically.

"But yes, I was totally smitten with Shannen from the first moment I saw her."

"Is that true?"

"Oh yes, I can still picture that moment, you were on the sofa watching Duncan and me come in, when Ariane introduced us. I only had eyes for you!"

"Hey, guys... please, no sappy sentimentality in front of me!!!"

"You'll see, the day it hits you, you'll be the heartthrob!"

"That's not happening anytime soon, believe me."

"Oh, you can't predict anything, my friend, someone's bound to get hooked on you eventually, and there's nothing you can do about it!" Shannen laughs.

Yumi bursts out laughing.

"Well, thanks guys, with all your theories, I'm no further ahead, but it gives me food for thought. Version 1, version 2, version 3!! Wait and see: we'll see in time which one is the right one."
