Ces deux anecdotes font partie d'un carnet de voyage "privé" que tient Shannen pour elle-même.

Il est un peu différent de celui qu'elle prépare pour la publication mensuelle du magazine d'Ariane ; disons qu'il est un peu plus personnel, parfois humoristique, voire même un peu corrosif.

Je crois que je vais vous en montrer quelques pages de temps en temps.

Je vous montrerai même sans doute celle qu'elle va remplir pour y témoigner de son ressenti au sujet du reportage dont les baroudeurs et elle vont faire l'objet, à commencer par la rencontrer avec Duncan et la productrice, qui doivent arriver en voiture en fin d'après-midi.

Ça n'a pas dérangé la routine des baroudeurs-photographes qui ont tranquillement suivi le programme qu'ils avaient en tête pour ce jour-là (en fait, j'ai même l'impression qu'ils n'avaient pas du tout envie d'être présents lors de l'arrivée des nouveaux venus). 

Sauf en ce qui concerne Shannen, puisqu'elle était chargée d'aller ce matin à Sherbrooke pour récupérer Alex, l'assistante de production, qui, elle, venait en autobus depuis Toronto et devait louer une voiture sur place.

Quand elles se sont retrouvées à la gare routière, Alex, peu bavarde, a rangé ses affaires dans le coffre, puis elles se sont rendues chez Cars-Rental où elle devait récupérer une voiture de location, et suivre ensuite Shannen jusqu'au chalet.

Chemin faisant, Shannen a tenté d'engager la conversation, et elle a demandé à Alex si être l'assistante d'une productrice était un métier intéressant.

La réponse d'Alex l'a laissée un peu perplexe.

- Assistante... mouai c'est assez intéressant comme job, c'est très varié. Mais je pense que le terme "esclave" serait souvent plus approprié !

Pendant ce temps, Yumi était allée faire un tour du côté du petit barrage hydro-électrique de Magog, duquel elle pensait faire quelques photos potentiellement intéressantes. Comme cette première prise.

Elle revint ensuite prendre son scooter pour longer la rue et s'approcher plus près du barrage.

C'est là qu'elle a eu la mauvaise surprise de découvrir un policier municipal qui venait de lui dresser une contravention.

- Monsieur l'agent, soyez gentil : je ne gênais personne, et je ne me suis arrêtée que deux minutes sur le bord de la route, pour le temps d'une photo, en stationnant derrière les autres véhicules qui sont garés là.

- Vous n'êtes pas grande, mais vous devez quand même l'être suffisamment pour voir le panneau d'interdiction de stationner à partir de là où il se trouve, même s'il est largement au dessus de votre tête. Retournez-vous et regardez donc vous-même.

Yumi a été vexée de la réflexion sur sa taille, car elle en fait un complexe, mais en se retournant, elle a vu qu'en effet, elle était en tort. Il faut dire qu'elle ne maitrise pas encore l'incroyable diversité des panneaux de signalisation du Québec (voir cet article : https://www.journaldemontreal.com/2025/06/06/le-quebec--champion-de-la-variete-de-panneaux-routiers )

Elle a pris la contravention sans ajouter un mot, et elle est repartie sous le regard sévère du peu aimable policier.

Elle a malgré tout terminé sa série de photos, puis elle s'est arrêtée sur une table de pique-nique au bord du lac pour manger un sandwich de Subway. Encore quelques photos par-ci et par-là, puis elle est rentrée au chalet où elle a fait la connaissance d'Alex, en attendant l'arrivée de Duncan et la productrice.

These two anecdotes are part of a "private" travel diary Shannen keeps for herself.
It's a little different from the one she prepares for the monthly publication of Ariane's magazine; let's just say it's a little more personal, sometimes humorous, even a little caustic.
I think I'll show you a few pages from time to time.
I'll probably even show you the one she's going to fill out to share her feelings about the report she and the backpackers will be filming, starting with a meeting with her, Duncan, and the producer, who are due to arrive by car late this afternoon.

This didn't disrupt the routine of the photographer-adventurers, who calmly followed the schedule they had in mind for that day (in fact, I have the feeling they didn't want to be there at all when the newcomers arrived).
Except for Shannen, since she was in charge of going to Sherbrooke this morning to pick up Alex, the production assistant, who was coming by bus from Toronto and had to rent a car there.

When they met at the bus station, Alex, not very talkative, put her things in the trunk, then they went to Cars-Rental where she was to pick up a rental car and then follow Shannen to the chalet.
During the short journey, Shannen tried to strike up a conversation and asked Alex if being a producer's assistant was an interesting job. Alex's answer left her a little perplexed.
"Assistant... yeah, it's a pretty interesting job, it's very varied. But I think the term "slave" would often be more appropriate!

Meanwhile, Yumi had gone for a walk near the small hydroelectric dam in Magog, where she thought she'd take some potentially interesting photos. Like this first shot.
She then came back to take her scooter to walk along the street and closer to the dam.

That's when she had the unpleasant surprise of discovering a municipal police officer who had just issued her a ticket.
"Officer, be nice: I wasn't bothering anyone, and I only stopped for two minutes on the side of the road, long enough to take a photo, parking behind the other vehicles parked there."
- You're not tall, but you should be tall enough to see the no parking sign from where it is, even if it's well above your head. Turn around and look at it yourself.
Yumi was offended by the comment about her height, as she has a complex about it, but when she turned around, she saw that she was indeed in the wrong. It must be said that she hasn't yet mastered the incredible diversity of road signs in Quebec (see this article: https://www.journaldemontreal.com/2025/06/06/le-quebec--champion-de-la-variete-de-panneaux-routiers )
She took the ticket without another word and left under the stern gaze of the unfriendly police officer. She finished her photoshoot anyway, then stopped at a picnic table by the lake to eat a Subway sandwich. She took a few more photos here and there, then she headed back to the cabin where she met Alex, while waiting for Duncan and the producer to arrive.
