Comme je vous l'avais annoncé mardi, du verglas était prévu pour mercredi, suivi de neige jeudi matin.

Or, quand enfin un rayon de soleil fait son apparition dans l'après-midi, il est bien difficile pour un photographe de ne pas avoir envie de sortir immortaliser les scènes magiques créées par la glace sur les branches.

Ce fut le cas d'Aslan, qui n'a pas pu résister à l'appel de la photographie.

Ses compagnons, eux, préféraient rester dans le chalet. Ils ont tenté de le dissuader, lui rappelant que les médias ne cessaient de répéter qu'il ne fallait sortir qu'en cas d'absolue nécessité. Aslan leur a rétorqué qu'étant originaire du Haut-Jura, il était habitué au froid et à la glace, et qu'il serait prudent.

Non loin du chalet, il a pris quelques premières photos qui lui ont confirmé sa décision de sortir.

Il s'enfonça dans la forêt, subjugué par toute cette beauté lumineuse et glacée.

Puis, arrivé à la route qui traverse le parc, il abandonna toute prudence pour prendre une nouvelle série de photos à couper le souffle, se retournant sans cesse devant, derrière, à droite et à gauche, pour être sûr de ne rien manquer.

Jusqu'au moment où il glissa sur une plaque de verglas et se tordit la cheville.

Marchant avec difficulté, il ramassa une branche pour s'en servir de canne, et regagna lentement le chalet.

Minimisant la douleur toute la soirée, mais grimaçant souvent, Tina finit par le convaincre vers minuit d'aller aux urgences pour une radiographie.

Tina ne se sentant pas assez en confiance pour conduire sur les routes glissantes, c'est Franck qui l'accompagna et lui tint compagnie pendant les onze longues heures d'attente.

Dans l'après-midi, ils rentrèrent au chalet avec le verdict : une entorse de grade 2 et une bande plâtrée pour trois semaines.

Inutile de dire qu'Aslan maudissait sa malchance et insistait sur le fait qu'il n'allait pas garder cette "cochonnerie" sur son pied pendant les trois semaines prévues.

Ses amis eurent la gentillesse de ne pas lui rappeler leurs avertissements, se contentant de lui dire qu'il ne manquait rien puisque les prochaines semaines ne seraient pas idéales pour prendre de belles photos : le paysage serait principalement composé de neige sale et à moitié fondue, et les premières touffes de végétation qui apparaitraient seraient grises et jaunes, brûlées par le froid.

Mais ils ne se sont pas gênés pour le taquiner !

Sauf Salma, qui semblait carrément s'ennuyer, perdue dans ses pensées comme si elle se demandait ce qu'il y avait de si drôle dans cette situation.

"Tu pourrais te proposer pour jouer un rôle de pirate à la jambe de bois au cinéma" lui a suggéré Nabil.

"Ou bien de momie... mais pas encore terminée !" a rajouté Wash.

"À te voir bouger, les escargots doivent se prendre pour des sprinteurs !" a lancé Franck.

"Est-ce qu'on peut te chronométrer quand tu vas aux toilettes ?" s'est esclaffée Oona.

"Je crois qu'il a fait ça pour qu'on lui laisse enfin une place sur le canapé" a renchéri Kyle.

"Ce que j'apprécie le plus, c'est la grâce que ça te donne quand tu te déplaces, une vraie ballerine !" gloussa Shannen.

Heureusement, Aslan a un bon sens de l'humour et il a bien rigolé en entendant les blagues successives de ses camarades, qui n'en finissaient pas de le taquiner sur sa chute et son plâtre.

Mais c'est finalement Shannen qui lui a dit ce qui lui a fait le plus plaisir : "Ça valait quand même le coup, parce que tes photos sont très belles !".

As I told you on Tuesday, black ice was forecast for Wednesday, followed by snow on Thursday morning. And when a ray of sunshine finally appeared in the afternoon, it was hard for a photographer not to want to go out and capture the magical scenes created by the ice on the branches.
This was the case for Aslan, who couldn't resist the lure of photography.

His companions preferred to stay warm and cozy in the chalet. They tried to dissuade him, reminding him that the media kept repeating that people should only go out if absolutely necessary. Aslan retorted that, being from the Haut-Jura region, he was used to the cold and the ice, and that he would be careful.

Not far from the chalet, he took some initial photos that confirmed his decision to go out. He ventured into the forest, captivated by all this luminous and icy beauty. Then, having reached the road that crosses the park, he abandoned all caution to take another series of breathtaking photos, constantly turning around to look ahead, behind, to the right, and to the left, to make sure he didn't miss a thing.

Until the moment he slipped on a patch of black ice and twisted his ankle. Walking with difficulty, he picked up a branch to use as a walking stick and slowly made his way back to the cabin.

Minimizing the pain all evening, but wincing often, Tina finally convinced him around midnight to go to the emergency room for an X-ray. Tina not feeling confident enough to drive on the slippery roads, it's Franck accompanied him and kept him company during the eleven long hours of waiting.

In the afternoon, they returned to the cabin with the verdict: a grade 2 sprain and a cast for three weeks. Needless to say, Aslan cursed his bad luck and insisted he wasn't going to keep that "piece of junk" on his foot for the three weeks he'd been waiting.

His friends were kind enough not to remind him of their warnings, simply telling him that he wasn't missing anything since the next few weeks wouldn't be ideal for taking beautiful photos: the landscape would be mostly dirty, half-melted snow, and the first clumps of vegetation that appeared would be gray and yellow, scorched by the cold.

But they didn't hesitate to tease him! Except for Salma, who seemed lost in thought, as if wondering what was so funny about the situation.
"You could audition for a role as a one-legged pirate in a movie," Nabil suggested.
"Or a mummy... but not finished yet!" added Wash. "Watching you move, the snails must think they're sprinters!" exclaimed Franck.
"Can we time you when you go to the bathroom?" Oona giggled.
"I think he did that so we'd finally give him a spot on the couch," Kyle chimed in.
"What I appreciate most is the grace it gives you when you move, a real ballerina!" Shannen chuckled.

Luckily, Aslan has a good sense of humor and he laughed at the string of jokes from his classmates, who kept teasing him about his fall and his cast.
But it was Shannen who finally said what pleased him the most: "It was worth it, though, because your photos are really beautiful!"
