Les montagnes russes météorologiques sont de retour ! Tout comme la semaine dernière, après plusieurs jours où les températures maximales de l'après-midi plafonnaient à nouveau entre 4 et 5 degrés, le thermomètre a atteint les 20 degrés aujourd'hui !!

Christophe en a profité cet après-midi pour partir faire une balade à moto.

Sur le chemin du retour, il s'est arrêté à son endroit préféré, sur une table au bord de la rivière, et il a consulté son téléphone. C'est alors qu'il a découvert un appel manqué de Sophie, qui lui demandait avec insistance de la rappeler dès que possible.

- Zut ! Elle a sûrement besoin de quelque chose ; quel idiot je fais de ne pas avoir vérifié mon téléphone plus tôt. Bon, il est 16 h 30 ici, ce qui fait 22 h 30 là-bas, elle est probablement en train de regarder le film du soir, je l'appelle tout de suite.

The meteorological roller coaster is back! Just like last week, after several days where afternoon highs peaked between 4 and 5 degrees again, the thermometer reached 20 degrees today!!
Christophe took advantage of the afternoon to go for a motorcycle ride.
On his way back, he stopped at his favorite spot, by a picnic table along the river, and checked his phone. That is when he discovered a missed call from Sophie, who unfortunately asked him to call her back as soon as possible.
"Shoot! She surely needs something; what an idiot I am for not checking my phone sooner. Well, it's 4:30 PM here, which makes it 10:30 PM over there. She’s probably watching the evening movie, I’ll call her right away."

Sophie décrocha immédiatement. Tout à son plaisir, Christophe s'écria immédiatement d'un ton enjoué :

- Salut ma belle ! Devine quoi ! Tu avais raison : Aslan est d’accord pour me revendre la Harley ! Tu seras soulagée d’apprendre qu’ils se déplaceront désormais en voiture ; quant à moi, j’ai pu rouler toute la journée à moto, et, pour une fois, sans ressentir la moindre once de culpabilité !

Sophie answered immediately. Brimming with joy, Christophe blurted out in a cheerful tone:
"Hey gorgeous! Guess what! You were right: Aslan agreed to sell me the Harley! You’ll be relieved to know they’ll be driving a car from now on. As for me, I got to ride all day, and for once, without feeling a single ounce of guilt!"

- Merci ma belle ! Ça n'a pas l'air d'aller, qu'est ce qui se passe ?

"Thanks, beautiful! You don't sound too good, what's going on?"

- Oh ! mince .... Pourtant, elle semblait aller parfaitement bien quand je suis parti de chez toi, le mois dernier. Quel est le pronostic des médecins ?

- Je suis vraiment désolé pour elle, et triste.

- Bien sûr, je te comprends, il vaut mieux que je le dise moi-même à Tina, que toi par téléphone. Je vais lui annoncer le plus doucement possible, elle te rappellera sûrement tout de suite après. J'y vais immédiatement, à cette heure-ci, ils ne doivent pas être très loin de rentrer au chalet. Ne t'inquiète de rien ; nous nous occupons du billet d'avion en urgence. Concentre-toi simplement sur ta mère

"Oh... goodness. Yet, she seemed perfectly fine when I left your place last month. What is the doctors' prognosis?"

"I am truly sorry for her, and so sad."

"Of course, I understand. It’s better if I tell Tina myself rather than you over the phone. I’ll break it to her as gently as possible, she will surely call you back right away. I'm heading out immediately; at this hour, they shouldn't be too far from getting back to the chalet. Don't worry about a thing; we will take care of the emergency plane ticket. Just focus on your mother."

Lorsque Christophe raccrocha, il se sentit envahi par la tristesse. Il s’était beaucoup attaché à la mère de Sophie, une dame âgée qui avait fêté son centième anniversaire au printemps. Bien qu’elle lui arrivât parfois d’avoir les idées un peu confuses, le reste du temps, elle était charmante, tout aussi pleine d’humour que sa fille, et il avait passé de très bons moments en sa compagnie durant les trois semaines où il avait séjourné chez Sophie cet été. Avec une lueur malicieuse dans le regard, la vieille dame n’avait pas hésité à le taquiner à maintes reprises au sujet de l’affection manifeste qu’il portait à sa fille, ce qui, malgré l’âge de Christophe, le faisait rougir à chaque fois !

- Pauvre Tina… c’est une épreuve qui l’attend. Aslan devrait l’accompagner.

When Christophe hung up, he was overcome with sadness. He had grown very attached to Sophie’s mother, an elderly lady who had celebrated her 100th birthday in the spring. Although she sometimes got a bit confused, the rest of the time she was charming, just as full of humor as her daughter, and he had spent wonderful moments in her company during his three-week stay at Sophie's this summer. With a mischievous glint in her eye, the old lady hadn't hesitated to tease him repeatedly about his clear affection for her daughter, which, despite Christophe’s age, made him blush every single time!
"Poor Tina… this is going to be a tough ordeal for her. Aslan should go with her."

Il réfléchit encore un instant.
- En fait, je crois que je vais les accompagner tous les deux, parce que je suis sûr que Sophie aura, elle aussi, besoin de soutien. 

He reflected for a moment longer.
"In fact, I think I will accompany them both, because I am sure Sophie will need support too."
