Vous vous souvenez peut-être que Tina avait renoncé à rentrer en France pour passer les fêtes dans sa famille afin de rester avec Aslan (revoir ICI). Elle est néanmoins partie ce matin pour une semaine, car son arrière-grand-mère fêtera ses cent ans mardi prochain et toute la famille, sans exception, sera présente pour souhaiter un très joyeux anniversaire à cette charmante vieille dame, que Tina aime profondément.

Aslan est rentré de l'aéroport de Montréal où il l'a accompagnée ce matin. Au moment de se séparer à la porte d'embarquement, Tina a eu du mal à retenir ses larmes, et depuis, il se sent triste et seul. En fait, il réalise qu'il n'avait pas encore pleinement mesuré l'importance qu'elle a prise dans sa nouvelle vie au Canada.

En fin d'après-midi, quand toute la bande des baroudeurs s'est trouvée réunie, il a essayé de faire comme si de rien n'était, allant même jusqu'à exagérer sa fausse nonchalance, mais son attitude était si artificielle qu'ils ont tous fini par s'agacer de son manque de confiance en eux.

Alors Franck lance une amicale attaque.

"Tu sais, Aslan, c'est normal de ne pas se sentir bien. Inutile de faire semblant. Je sais exactement ce que tu ressens, parce que quand Oona a été démobilisée, il me restait encore six mois de contrat militaire. Avec elle de retour ici et moi déployé en Lettonie, j'ai vraiment eu l'impression que ces mois étaient les plus longs de ma vie".

"Je pense la même chose ; arrête de faire semblant. Si je ne devais pas voir Guylaine pendant une semaine, je ne sauterais pas de joie, c'est clair". 

Shannen en rajoute.

"Quand Kyle est allé passer une semaine chez sa mère à Ottawa, vous avez tous dit que j'étais d'une humeur massacrante, et pourtant, il n'était qu'à 320 Km d'ici, pas à 5500 Km comme Tina actuellement. Alors je te dis aussi que c'est inutile de faire semblant que tu es en pleine forme et heureux".

Pour détendre un peu l'atmosphère, Kyle la taquine.

"Ah oui ? Tu étais d'humeur massacrante ? Encore pire que d'habitude ? Ça devait être dur pour les copains, si j'avais su, je serais resté là !".

Yumi a une idée.

"Et puis, elle revient samedi prochain et tu iras la chercher à l'aéroport. Comme ce sera la Saint-Valentin, vous pourriez organiser quelque chose pour passer le week-end ensemble à Montréal, tous les deux. Ce serait chouette, non ?"  

 Une ovation approuve la suggestion de Yumi.

Aslan reste silencieux quelques instants, comme plongé dans ses pensées. Puis, à la surprise générale, un léger sourire apparait sur ses lèvres et il annonce d'un air rêveur :

"C'est vrai, ce sera la Saint-Valentin. Alors, je pense que je vais en profiter pour faire ma demande. C'est maintenant ou jamais, pas vrai ?!"

You may remember that Tina had decided against returning to France to spend the holidays with her family in order to stay with Aslan (see HERE). Nevertheless, she left this morning for a week, as her great-grandmother will be celebrating her 100th birthday next Tuesday, and the entire family, without exception, will be there to wish this charming old lady, whom Tina loves dearly, a very happy birthday.

Aslan returned from the Montreal airport where he had accompanied her this morning. When they parted at the gate, Tina struggled to hold back her tears, and since then, he has felt sad and alone. In fact, he realizes that he hadn't yet fully grasped the importance she has taken on in his new life in Canada.

Late that afternoon, when the whole gang of adventurers had gathered, he tried to act as if nothing was wrong, even exaggerating his feigned nonchalance, but his attitude was so artificial that they all ended up getting annoyed by his lack of self-confidence.

Then Franck launched his friendly attack.
"You know, Aslan, it's normal not to feel good. No point in pretending. I know exactly how you feel, because when Oona was demobilized, I still had six months of my military contract left. With her back here and me deployed to Latvia, I really felt like those months were the longest of my life."

"I feel the same way; stop pretending. If I didn't have to see Guylaine for a week, I wouldn't be jumping for joy, that's for sure."

Shannen chimed in.
"When Kyle went to spend a week with his mother in Ottawa, you all said I was in a terrible mood, and yet, he was only 320 km away, not 5,500 km like Tina is now. So I'm also telling you that there's no point in pretending you're feeling great and happy."
To lighten the mood, Kyle teases her.
"Oh yeah? You were in a terrible mood? Even worse than usual? It must have been tough for the guys. If I'd known, I would have stayed!"

Yumi has an idea.
"And she's coming back next Saturday, and you'll pick her up at the airport. Since it's Valentine's Day, you two could plan something to spend the weekend together in Montreal. Wouldn't that be nice?"

A chorus of approval follows Yumi's suggestion.

Aslan remained silent for a few moments, as if lost in thought. Then, to everyone's surprise, a slight smile appeared on his lips, and he announced dreamily :
"That's right, it's Valentine's Day. So, I think I'll take advantage of it to propose. It's now or never, isn't it?!"
