Chapter III
Alicia crossed some thickets, taking care not to tear her clothes. The further she advanced, the clearer the noise became. Boom... Boom. ... Boom.... Boom.... Following the direction of the sound, she arrived at the edge of a clearing where a scene took place that surprised her to no end: four elves were trying to cut wood with great blows of their axes. So that was the noise she heard.
- It's impossible: elves only exist in storybooks like the ones in Madame Götzmann's library, Alicia said to herself.
It will be noted that, for once, Alicia did not speak out loud. It's because she was afraid that the elves would run away when they saw her.
She continued to spy on them in silence. There was an old elf grandfather who smoked his pipe and watched the movements of the four young lumberjacks, kindly giving them explanations on how to do it. Near him, there was another elf, this one very small, who looked at the others with interest.
Alicia stayed for a long time observing them, then as the day was falling and she knew she had to return before nightfall, she slowly left home, while promising herself to come back and see another day if the elves were still there. or if she had dreamed.
